Nails of the Day: Icing 'Frost Yourself' & OPI 'Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees

OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees (L) w/ Icing Frost Yourself (R)
Today for my FIRST ever nail post I decided to do a NOTD or Nail of the Day, seeming as they are a timeless classic in the nail world. I have to be honest though, these aren't the polishes I'm wearing on my nails today.... these are pictures from about a week ago! Nevertheless I thought I'd put this up anyway.

So, as I said in the title, this is Icing Frost Yourself layered over OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees. Frost Yourself is a holographic silver glitter polish in a clear jelly base. It's a mixture of small and large hexagonal glitter - which I might add shines a lovely rainbow of color in the sunlight. It's pretty goopy as you'd expect with a glitter, but not so goopy that it becomes unbearable to work with. The glitter is pretty densely packed as I used only one coat for the swatch below. Also please excuse my messy-ness and the torn skin around nails. I don't bite my nails but I am guilty of picking at my skin and cuticles and I'm horrible at staying in the lines when applying polish.

3 coats OPI Suzi Skis topped with 1 coat Icing Frost Yourself
Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees is described as a "deep blue-grey", but to me it appears black with a hint of grey. Surprisingly it was pretty sheer for such a dark color and I had to use 3 coats for these pictures. Despite it being thin it was very easy to work with and flowed on the nail nicely.

Lastly hear is a picture with the camera's flash on to show a little bit of the holographic-ness. As you can see the glitter turns into a rainbow party in the light! Sorry about the blurry quality, my camera isn't the best at close up shots.

I hope you guys liked my first real post! Thanks for stopping by

Maggie Stiefvater's Forever Contest

Hello all! This is my entry for Maggie Stiefvater's blog contest. I am trying to win 1 of 3 advanced reader copies (ARC's) of the final book in her Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy, Forever. This is by-far one of my all time favorite series and I hope I win so I can read Forever that much sooner. So, without further ado, here is my entry:

This is watercolor on a 16x20 canvas. As you can see I also cut all trees, wolves, leafs, the moon, and bushes, out of an old novel I had lying around in the basement, my attempt at a layered look. I then painted the cutouts (again with watercolor) to add more definition to the piece. This project took quite a while to complete but was very fun. Please take note of the falling leaves which are blue, green, and red, representing the colorful covers of the books. I must say the covers were a very big inspiration when making this. Also notice the yellow-eyed wolf (wonder who that could be???) who seems quite hesitant to join his fellow wolves in howling at the moon.

Thanks for checking out my entry! I hope I win!
